Grapevine is a major fruit crop used for the production of table grapes, dried raisins, wines and spirits. These diverse products each require that the fruit have specific qualities (yield, color, firmness, composition, sanitary status…) at harvest.

These qualities depend on complex interactions between the genotypes of the rooststock (for grafted vines) and scion, and their environments (soil and atmosphere). Modern viticulture must adapt to a changing climate while maintaining/improving yield and quality, and decreasing inputs of water, mineral nutrients, and pesticides.
